Attendance and Punctuality

Attendance and punctuality at our school are currently in line with the national average at 94.4%. However, this is an area we take very seriously.

Children cannot learn if they are not in school. School is not only a place for academic learning, but also where children develop as a whole—building friendships, learning to socialise, and receiving nurture and support.

We closely monitor attendance, particularly for families where children are persistently absent. Our Family Support Worker, Mrs Tammy Croly, works with and supports these families to improve attendance and overcome any barriers.

Punctuality is equally important. The school doors open at 8:45am, and the school day begins promptly at 8:55am when lessons start. Arriving late can be very disruptive—not only for the child, but also for the rest of the class. Many children find it difficult to settle if they have to enter a classroom after learning has already begun.

Each week, we publish attendance figures for every class in our school newsletter. The class with the highest attendance—96% or above—wins the attendance shield, which they keep for the following week. They are also rewarded with a small incentive, such as extra playtime.

We ask for your continued support in ensuring your child is IN SCHOOL AND ON TIME every day. Together, we can give them the best possible start to their learning journey.

Absence

If your child has to be absent from school, school should be contacted to advise of your child's non-attendance, explaining the circumstances. Please phone the office on 01772 555252 or use the absence notification on the parent Arbor app. If an absence or time out of school is required during school hours, this must be requested (in writing) in advance. A request form for this purpose is available from the school office on below.

School is obliged to keep records of absences during the year, including those for children arriving late. The government is setting targets for authorised and unauthorised absence levels.

Should you wish to request leave of absence for your child from school, please download a request form below and return to the school office. Please note: with the new government legislation leave of absence will not be approved and you will be notified in writing with regards to the decision made by the headteacher. Any leave of absence during term time could result in a penalty notice. Thank you.
